Botulinum toxin is a drug that has been injected for over 25 years to relieve thousands of children and adults with neuromuscular dysfunction in various fields including ophthalmology, neurology and urology.
In cosmetic dermatology, botulinum toxin injections target and relax the skin muscles responsible for the formation of expression lines: the muscles in the forehead, glabella and around the eyes. Used for over 15 years for cosmetic purposes, this treatment is completely safe. Botulinum toxin injections naturally smooth wrinkles and help the face to appear relaxed.
The botulinum toxin is injected precisely into each of the muscles responsible for the wrinkles to be treated using fine needles.
A prior local anaesthetic is not necessary.
The initial results are not noticeable immediately.
Two to five days after the injection, the wrinkles slowly fade and maximum results are visible after two weeks.
The results last around 4 to 6 months depending on the patient. The muscles then slowly contract and wrinkles gradually reappear. It is therefore advisable to repeat the treatment twice a year.
Immediately after treatment there may be some swelling where the product was injected but this fades within an hour.
Patients can resume normal activity immediately after the injection. However, it is advisable to avoid intense exercise, facial or scalp massages and wearing a helmet or tight-fitting glasses.
There are few contraindications but they are absolute:
